The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) organized a book release function for Development and Taxation: 60 Critical Commentaries, authored by Dr. Parthasarathi Shome, Academic Foundation, New Delhi. Mr. A. K. Bhattacharya, Editorial Director, Business Standard, released the book on 17 March 2017 at ASSOCHAM House, New Delhi, followed by a panel discussion. The panel comprised Dr. Ajit Ghose, ICSSR National Fellow, Institute of Human Development, Dr. Renu Kohli, Consultant (Professor), Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER), Dr. Pinaki Chakraborty, Professor, National Institute of Public Finance and Policy (NIPFP), Dr. Dwaipayan Bhattacharya, Professor, Jawaharlal Nehru University, and Mr. Uttaran Dasgupta, Assistant News Editor, Business Standard.

Reflecting the wide coverage of topics in the book, the panel discussed various chapters of the book reflecting the specialised areas of the panel members. This was followed by Q&A from the audience. The audience included Ms Anita Lapur, Ex CBDT Chair, Mr SR Wadhwa Ex Member CBDT and Settlement Commission, Mr Sunil Jain, Editor, Financial Express, Correspondent Economic Times and many others from government, academia and print media. Members of Academic Foundation including Dr Uma Kapila, and Rituraj and Sanu Kapila attended.
